Today outside of the castle is from adaptations after the fire in 1856. Castle has four parts, has one floor with pseudogothic facade, which overlap graphitic letters of original facade. In north-east corner of court is prismatic tower from 1590. During adaptation in 1856 tower was heightened for one floor and new gothic battlement was added. Inside eastern part of castle are five halls with renaissance ornamental stuccos from 1600, which were complemented in 17th and 19th century and restored in 1952.
The Klasterec nad Ohri castle has a very long history. The castle was originally Renaissance building from beginning of 16th century founded by Fictum's family as their dwelling house. The house passed many changes and gradually was acquiring today's form. Round 1590 building was enlarged by arched halls with stuccos and by tower. After the battle at Bila hora (8.11.1620) the property of Fictum's was confiscated due to their participation in rebellion of the states. New owner of Klasterec castle became Tyrol Nobel Krystof Stephan Thun who was later dignified to earl from Hohenstein. During thirty-year war was castle as so as town burnt off by Sweden soldiers. In 1666 it was rebuilt by early baroque Italian master builder Rossi de Lucca to delightful mansion with high-priced arrangement. Originally renaissance part was integrated to the rest. In 1784 castle burnt down and was consequently adapted by builder August Gruber. After another fire in 1856 castle was rebuilt to its contemporary new-gothic style by plans from Vaclav Hagenauer. After 1918 some little adaptations were made. After the World War II Klasterec castle became a property of Czechoslovakia and was opened for public. From 1950 to 1952 large adaptation was made. In 1953 was opened museum of china. Now castle's owner is the Czech republic.
In the castle is Museum of china. It offers to visitor rare collections of Czech and world's china, which was collected by Thun's family. Thuns were living here in Klasterec from 1623 to the end of the World War II. The parts of their possession are seen in the castle in Benesov nad Ploucnici and in Krasny Dvur.
In twenty original Renaissance halls is placed old Chinese and Japanese china, two hundred years old collection of Czech porcelain and china from Misen, Berlin and Wien.
The most valuable exhibits are Thun's representative dining service for sixty persons from 1856.
Sight-seeing in castle takes eighty minutes and includes visit of Thun's crypt in Church Nejsvetejsi trojice where is placed exceptional family tree. The crypt was built in 1665 together with church. Visitors can see Klasterec and environs from castle's tower.
In some rooms in castle are shops ( sale of china, sale of minerals and jewelry). Control of castle offers place to celebrations of birthday, weddings and other anniversary.
