The center of Prague, where most of the sights are concentrated, is small and can be reached comfortably on foot. To cross the city quickly or reach more widely dispersed attractions, you need to use the city transport system. It is based on trams, buses and underground /metro/. The metro and trams serve the city center, while buses are used to reach the suburbs. Only one ticket is needed for all three kinds of transport. Always buy the ticket before entering a tram or a bus and stamp it as soon as you board it. The tickets can be bought at tobacconists or from the ticket machines installed in metro stations.

Ticket
There are two kinds of tickets:
A ticket for a 15 minute ride without transfer above ground or one ride up to four stops on the metro - costs 14,- CZK or a ticket which lasts 60 minutes at peak times and 90 minutes off-peak, allowing transfers between metro, buses and trams - costs 20,- CZK Children under 6, the disabled and babies in carriages ride free. Children up to 15 need a half-price ticket.

Travel passes and prices:
One day Pass 80, - CZK
3-Day Pass 220, - CZK
7-Day Pass 280, - CZK
15-Day Pass 320, - CZK

City transport
by Metro
The underground is the quickest and most widely used form of transport. The Prague Metro is clean and comfortable. It has three lines, A - green, B - yellow and C - red. The route plans are easy to follow. It operates from 5 a.m. to midnight

by Tram
Trams are Prague's oldest method of public transport, in operation since 1891. After the metro, trams are the fastest and most efficient way of getting around, running every seven to twelve minutes throughout the day. Some lines do not operate during weekends. The timetables are posted at every stop. After the metro closes, night trams run every 30 minutes.

by Bus
The buses are not allowed into the city centre. You might need to use it when visiting the outer suburbs.

by Taxi
Taxis in Prague are not just a useful but often also a frustrating form of transport. A lot of taxi drivers are out to charge as much as they can get away with. It is safer to call the taxi by phone (33 11 33 11). In case you catch the cab on the street, ask for the price as soon as you enter the car.
