Visitors who want to get to know the natural beauty of the country, the historical monuments or folk architecture on foot, may discover
the well-organized network of marked tourist paths, routes and nature trails and information boards and maps situated at meeting points along he way.
Since its founding in 1888 the Czech Tourist Club has been marking and maintaining tourist routes totalling a distance of 36 000 km. European trails have passed through this country since 1991. Walkers can embark upon tours along the ridges of Hruby Jesenik, the Orlice Mountains, Krusne Mountains and along the paths leading throught Jizerske hory. The Sumava Mountains are now attracting tourists with new trails along formerly prohibited borderland territory. The Czech-Moravian highlands have a special magic, captured by many poets and artists in their work, with their wooded hills, rocks, stone quarries and lakes. The central Bohemian hills are characteristic for their peaks which afford wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
