With its stretch of 1.160 km2 The Beskydy Mountains Protected Area is the largest natural region in the Czech Republic. It was found in 1973. Almost 70 % is a timberedland. The Beskydy Mountains first were composed of mixed forests (firs, beeches), later there were planted out spruce firs. Today trees are affected headly by the industry and logging. The herbage and various of flower create a typical impression of this landscape.
To known tops belong headly the highest point of the Beskydy Mountains Lysá hora (1.328 m), further it is Radhošť (1.129 m), Pustevny (1.020 m), Kněhyně (1.256 m), Smrk (1.276 m) or Velký Javorník (918 m). These massifs are mainly formed of grit on a claystone from the chalk age. The Beskydy Mountains are also an important water region with some fresh water reservoirs. Natural reservation is mostly of a primeval forest type with several natural protected creations.
The Beskydy Mountains are for tourists a synonym of nature, providing a yearlong nice surroundings. Visitors can find there a wide offer of sport, cultural or social programmes and a good service. Full-satisfied will be lovers of both winter and summer tourism.
Towns and villages lying at the bottom of a mountain massif or in the valleys offer various of physical activities - from skiing, cycling to extreme sports (paragliding). But also people, who arrive headly because of the historical
monuments can see lot of interesting places and events - appearance of historical fence groups or repetitions of old-time trades and old-fashioned music concerts. The Beskydy Mountains and its foothills is also a region with preserved construction monuments. The oldest of theme are from the first half of 16th century. Beskydy belong to regions with rich cultural tradition, which nowadays commemorates folkloric festivals, drawing from the craft of folk-song and folk dance ensembles. The Beskydy Museum in the Frydek-Mistek castle provides to visitors an exposition about a history and ethnography of Beskydy. Even through this mountain range is situated in the corner of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia it is a well-accessible region from all the sides. Beskydy characterises an offer in which dominate all the components of pleased staying: the nature, culture and adventure.
